The Landmarks Society has four distinct areas to which time, energy, and funds are directed. All of these contribute to furthering the understanding and appreciation of the history and culture of St. Croix and preserving our historic assets for future generations. Your membership dues and donations will be distributed within these areas:
Membership income for Whim and Lawaetz Museums is expended on the care and upkeep of the buildings and grounds; the preservation and conservation of the furnishings and artifacts in the collections; the installation and maintenance of exhibits; and the acquisition of new materials.
The Research Library and Archivesreceives membership funds which go towards the purchase of new books, documents, periodicals, visual materials and sound recordings pertinent to our mission; the conservation of existing materials, including microfilming of rare and fragile documents; and the publication of works on local history.
Funds expended on Educational Outreach help support the Society's program for school children and adults, including lectures, seminars, providing assistance and materials for primary and secondary level teachers, class trips to Whim and day camp activities during vacations.
Membership dollars also go towards funding Island Preservation activities, including the purchase and conservation of historic sites and nature preserves.
Your membership dues and donations to the St. Croix Landmarks Society are tax-deductible, and work to support all of these programs. If you'd like to become a member, please contact us at info@stcroixlandmarks.org.
