Discover St. Croix Camp

Landmarks Society's Discover St. Croix Camp

Discover St. Croix Camp engages the next generation of preservationists, historians and educators and fosters relationships marked by trust, respect, loyalty and willingness to accept guidance.

Activities

Participants engage in exploring family history, time-honored traditions and core values of Crucian culture through hands-on workshops led by tradition bearers, visits to sacred sites and places of cultural and historical significance.

Campers prepare traditional foods, learn to create traditional crafts and toys, identify and describe uses for native plants, display their family research, demonstrate Quadrille and Bamboula dancing, Quelbe, Calypso and Cariso, make traditional instruments, and give oral and written reports on people, places and things valued in Virgin Islands culture.

Structure

Discover St. Croix Camp has two components:

  • Our traditional camp for 6 to 12 year olds, and
  • A year-round Counselor Development Program which will draw from former participants in our educational programs and other high school students.

Schedule

Camp is held for five weeks in the summer on the 11-acre site of the Estate Whim Museum, with possible one-week sessions during Christmas and other school breaks.
