North Shore Tour

House Tours 4: Estate CarambolaEstate Carambola

A true Caribbean residence, this home has been renovated throughout to enhance expansive views of the Caribbean and Ham’s Bluff and substantial tropical light filtering into its interior.

The floor plan has been edited and refined to allow for an expanded eat-in, gourmet kitchen with an illuminated onyx bar countertop. Coral stone tiles are laid throughout the interior and exterior. Lit soffits enhance the unique collectibles found throughout the residence.

Custom mahogany entry doors set the stage for what is to come — a textbook description of simple and relaxed island elegance.

Estate Clairmont

House Tours 4: Estate Clairmont

Estate Clairmont, featured on the cover of Architectural Digest in January 1997, is an old French sugar plantation from the early 1700’s.

Designed by Michael Helm, a well-known British architect based in Tortola, the sugar mill house sits on a breezy knoll in the low-lying mountains overlooking the panoramic North shore and was renovated to be one of the premier homes in the Virgin Islands.

The 5-foot thick walls of the sugar mill house an old-world kitchen with a 20-foot ceiling, antique tiles from the 1700s, mahogany cabinets and hidden pantry. A vaulted entrance hall with old-world sconces brings you into the courtyards, as well as to the entrance of the dining and living room. The living room has antique Dutch ballast brick, old terra-cotta floors and a 20-foot ceiling, and is filled with an enchanting mix of antique plantation furniture and exotic batiks.

Kumpitch Gardens

House Tours 4: Kumpitch GardensNestled on over 5 acres in historic Estate Salt River on the North side of St. Croix, these gardens sit among the ruins of a sugar plantation.  Started over fifty years ago by former owners Priscilla and Hugh Hilder, a master gardener  who was also a founding member of  the St. Georgia Botanical Gardens.  Subsequent owners have added and enhanced the colorful flora and fauna of this historical property. Present owners have preserved and enhanced the gardens using the Historic structures of the mill and its components as  focal points.
